Synopsis: 

 

Sylvie LaFontaine dreams of having adventures like her friend, Isabelle Lachance, but as the diffident and well-behaved daughter of a Guadeloupe minister, she doesn't foresee any escapades in her future. But that quickly changes when she arrives with her family at the home of her Uncle Claude and cousin Mathieu. There, excitement and mystery seem to find her almost the moment she arrives. 

Sylvie and her cousin soon begin to hear rumors of a secret society, one that their fathers are involved in, known as the Défenseurs, that has uncovered a historic map. As Sylvie attempts to discover more about the mystery of the Défenseurs, she is presented with an even greater mystery: the nature of one Serge Ladue, a reformed thief who becomes a leading cause of puzzlement and frustration to Sylvie. 

But disaster strikes in the form of Ivan Moskov and his troupe of miscreants. Moskov is the murderous leader of a band of thieves seeking to use the Défenseurs map to find treasure and glory, harming any who happen to get in their way. Narrowly escaping being kidnapped, Sylvie, her naive cousin Mathieu, and Serge Ladue form an unlikely alliance with the one common goal of outsmarting the bandits, rescuing the captured LaFontaine family and discovering the truth about the elusive treasure.
