Isabelle Lachance ~ A young woman living in France in the early 1800s. Isabelle's adventures take her across the sea and to the island of Guadeloupe, as she searches for the elusive French King's Jewels. 

 

Antoine Ladue ~ The mysterious french lieutenant who shows interest in Isabelle. He knows much more than he claims as he searches to discover more about the Jewels. 

 

Captain Gabriel Noir ~ The charming and lively captain of the ship, Le Risque, who forms an attachment with Isabelle. His desire for adventure and glory causes problems for him. 

 

Francesca ~ The Lachance family's Italian maid, cook, and housekeeper. She is Isabelle's dearest friend and confidant. 

 

Dominic ~ A young crewman of Le Risque who befriends Isabelle and helps her in her struggles on the ship. 

 

Anana ~ Dominic's pet spider monkey, who has a bright personality.  

 

Gaston Lachance ~ Isabelle's controlling father, who tries to protect the Jewels from would-be criminals.

Sylvie LaFontaine ~ A bright and determined young woman who gets swept up in the French King's Jewels' mystery when her family is kidnapped. She must go on a quest to find the treasure in order to save her family from the evil Ivan Moskov. 

Pasteur LaFontaine ~ Sylvie's father, the pastor at their parish in Guadeloupe. 

Madame LaFontaine ~ Sylvie's mother, a strictly principled yet caring woman. 

Danielle LaFontaine ~ Sylvie's twelve-year-old sister, who is lively and adventurous. 

Mathieu  LaFontaine ~ A cousin to Sylvie, seventeen-year-old Matt is eager to prove himself and be a hero, though he is still a mischievous boy at heart.  

Uncle Claude LaFontaine ~ Mathieu's father, Claude, is a doctor who owns his own office and is overbearing toward his son. 

Serge Ladue ~ Charming, enigmatic, and dangerous, Serge Ladue is a reformed outlaw who tries to catch Sylvie's eye. Although she can't stand him, Serge's unique skills are needed if the jewels (and Sylvie's family) are to be rescued.

Nadya Yoska ~ The only daughter of the Yoskas, a family of traveling gypsies who assist the LaFontaine's and Serge in their journey. 

Ivan Moskov ~ A highly menacing and intimidating character, Ivan is the self proclaimed King of the Bandits, who will go to any means to find the French King's Jewels. 

 

The Défenseurs ~ The secret group of revolutionaries who protect and defend the rights of the french men and women.
